Religious Sensibilities and Science

August 31st, 2009 Brandon

smith-cottonThere’s a bit of an uproar going on over this t-shirt in a small community in Missouri.  The brass band put it together as part of their “evolution of brass” bit, detailing how brass instruments and their music has changed over the years.  Unfortunately for them some Christians in the school took offense and had the t-shirts removed.  The faculty hid behind the idea that they had to be “religion neutral” but in reality what does that say? If anything is potentially offensive to someone’s religious sensibilities, they must remove it now?  There a HUGE danger when educational institutions cow tow to religious sensibilities, especially when facts are involved.

For more details, check out PZ Myer’s post about it.
